On May 5, 2011 our class went to experience Nebraska History in action. Along with other 4th graders throughout our district, our class took part in Living History Day. The Lincoln County Historical Museum and Buffalo Bill Ranch were the host sites for the event. It was a neat experience that started off with a walk down history lane to a one-room school house and teacher from 1880. We then went to see a model of Bailey Yards right here in North Platte, and listened to a railroad speaker talk about our unique record-setting yards. We also went to see the rope-maker and the blacksmith, and learned about each of those invidual trades. 4th graders enjoyed a sack lunch under the gazebo, and then headed to Buffalo Bill’s Ranch to learn more. We enjoyed a presentation on spinning/weaving/sewing and had the opportunity to see how clothes were made in times past. We also took a tour of the house and barn, and watched a movie about Buffalo Bill’s life. We ended our day with a visit to the mountain man in his log cabin. The kids had a wonderful day! Check out our photos from the day.
